The Value Behind Promotional Swag

Think about a time when you received free swag from a company. Pretty cool, right? The benefits of handing out promotional materials to customers, vendors, leads, partners and friends has much more value than most businesses realize. Read on for a few ways your business can benefit from having swag on hand at all times, and the way it will provide value in various aspects.

Think about a time when you received free swag from a company. Pretty cool, right? The benefits of handing out promotional materials to customers, vendors, leads, partners and friends has much more value than most businesses realize.

Going back to the free swag we've all gotten from some point from a business... think about it. More than likely, it had that company's branding and logo on it somewhere. That company just put themselves into the hands of a random person who otherwise might not have ever heard of them. Whether it was a t-shirt, a water bottle, a phone charger, etc... there are endless practical giveaway items that can be branded with your business (while fitting in with your marketing budget) to always have on hand.

At Ytel, we design new t-shirts every quarter for the team, and order additional shirts to have in inventory for customer visits, trade shows, family and friends, etc. People LOVE free shirts! We've also ran giveaways where the reward was a t-shirt, and it was one of our most successful campaigns to date.

How else does promotional swag help a company out? Here's a couple examples.

1. Increases awareness & recognition

  • If the item is practical and able to be utilized regularly, there's no doubt that your business will be remembered by the recipient. If it's a really unique or creative item, again... the chances are even better that you'll be remembered for a long time! The end goal being brand exposure from these promotional materials leading to new leads and customers!

2. Mass outreach, low cost

  • Promotional swag can be much more affordable for a business than running extensive advertising campaigns, especially if you're a startup trying to get your name out there quickly and efficiently. Think of it as an alternative to a business card, but company-wide rather than just an individual person.

3. Creates diversity

  • Particularly when you're at an event or visiting customers, if you have something really awesome to hand out, you'll be remembered for that reason. Promotional swag is your chance to really showcase the creative and fun side of your brand... it sets you apart from the rest!

Here's a few swag suggestions we've given out, and some we've seen that have rocked:

  • Branded iPhone chargers
  • Golf towels
  • Branded chapstick (great for tradeshows!)
  • Stress balls & foam footballs
  • Notepads or moleskin pads
  • Branded wine (a nice bottle!)

Our Operations team loves sending swag packages to new customers who just signed on, or to customers who are celebrating something exciting happening within their business that we might've played a role in. It's a great way to not only get our branding in their hands but also send a message of support and friendship.
